Prairie Valley Board Chair Re-Elected, New Vice Chair Elected

“I am honoured and excited to continue serving as Board Chair and working to ensure Prairie Valley students have the best possible opportunities to achieve success in learning and in life,” Board Chair Janet Kotylak said. “Our division is fortunate to have many dedicated and caring staff members, School Community Councils, parents and guardians, and community members and I am grateful for this leadership opportunity.”

Kotylak has chaired the Board since 2012 and has served on the Prairie Valley Board of Education since 2005. Prior to her time on the Prairie Valley Board, Kotylak served as a member of Montmartre’s local school board after she was elected in 1997. She also has served on Boards at the provincial level, including as the Saskatchewan School Boards Association (SSBA) Executive Member representing the Southern Constituency. Kotylak and her husband operate a livestock and grain farm near Montmartre.

“I am thankful for the opportunity to serve as Vice Chair and to work with my fellow Board members and Prairie Valley staff towards the priorities laid out in the division’s strategic plan, This Is Us – Wicihitowin,” Vice Chair Terry Berglund said. “I look forward to working in this new role as our Board continues to focus on taking a student-centered approach to making improvements in our schools and bringing the community voice to important decisions about public education.”

Berglund was a longtime student services professional in southeast Saskatchewan who retired from Prairie Valley School Division after working as a speech language pathologist for 34 years. She has served as a Prairie Valley Board member since she was elected in 2014.

Kotylak and Berglund’s terms are scheduled to run until November 2024.
